Malaysia and Uzbekistan have agreed to set up an inter-governmental commission on trade and economic cooperation. This decision was reached during a visit of Uzbek President Islam Karimov to Kuala-Lumpur which ended on Tuesday, Itar-Tass reported. The two sides also signed a package of important agreements covering the most perspective spheres of bilateral interaction, which were discussed during a meeting between the Uzbek president and Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. In particular, the two countries' leaders signed a memorandum on joint development of mineral resources and development of tourism, on interaction in the sphere of air traffic and broadening of partnership in the fields of information and telecommunication. They also signed a document on Uzbek-Malaysian cooperation in combating terrorism and religious extremism. Kuala-Lumpur and Tashkent intend to make maximum efforts for maintaining peace and stability in Asia in this connection, said a joint statement issued on the results of the two leaders' talks.
