The minimum wage in European Union newcomer Poland will grow to 899 zloty (280 dollars, 230 euro) per month as of 2006, an increase of 50 zloty from the current level, Poland's PAP news agency reported Tuesday. The change means that as of next January the net minimum monthly salary after taxes will tally at 642 zloty (200 dollars, 164 euro). Labour ministry officials hope the increased minimum wage could serve to curb the market in unregistered labour and encourage people drawing unemployment benefits to seek work. --SP 2329 Local Time 2029 GMT
