Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz chaired the weekly session of the Council of Ministers here today. At the beginning of the session, the King expressed Saudi hopes that the next senior level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in its 60th session, to be held in New York, will take effective and clear decisions on various issues which stand in the way of achieving development and stability of the world's peoples. The King stressed the importance of the UN's playing of its role in fighting terrorism, and he highlighted Saudi Arabia's initiative in February in calling for, hosting, and organizing an international conference on fighting terrorism with wide international participation. He also highlighted Riyadh's declaration which was issued by the conference, pointed to the call for the establishment of an international center for fighting terrorism, and the wide international interest paid to the conference. The King also stressed Saudi Arabian keenness on seeing the UN and its affiliate agencies boost their roles in fighting backwardness and poverty and in effective contribution to utilize circumstances and international relations to enable developing countries and communities achieve sustainable development. --More 2048 Local Time 1748 GMT
