China FTA on goods had been completed and came into effect on July 1, 2005. Negotiations to conclude the services and investment agreements are ongoing. The FTAs negotiated are comprehensive, encompassing tariff reduction/elimination for goods; liberalization of the services sector; trade and investment promotion and facilitation activities; investment protection; and economic and technical cooperation programmes. The objectives of the FTAs are to seek better market access for goods and services; further facilitate and promote trade, investment and economic development; enhance the competitiveness of Malaysian exporters; and build capacity in specific targeted areas through technical cooperation and collaboration.
