Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Premier, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General, highlighted the Cabinet's approval of the new draft of civil aviation system which was preceded by the Cabinet's decision to transfer the civil aviation into a financially and administratively independent public commission of a legal personality that will be run on commercial bases. In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, Crown Prince Sultan said the move complies with international trends in the air transportation industry and meets the dynamic requirements and consecutive changes of this industry. He said the new system is the result of a thorough study and strenuous efforts exerted over several years by the personnel of civil aviation and finally culminated by the Cabinet's seal. Crown Prince Sultan said the Kingdom is an effective member of the Civil Aviation Organization and is so keen to live up to its international commitments, including the enforcement of international standards, bases and recommendations which contribute to the development of this industry. He vowed that the Saudi Civil Aviation Authority, which he heads its Board of Directors, would exert more efforts to improve and develop the standard of services provided by airports for its users, including passengers and aviation companies.
