One person was killed and another seriously injured Friday night in a car bomb explosion in the Mediterranean port city of Mersin, police said on Saturday, according to DPA. Mersin deputy police chief Suleyman Ekizer on Saturday afternoon said the man in the passenger seat of a Mercedes vehicle with Istanbul number plates died instantly when a bomb he was carrying exploded for unknown reasons. "We can confirm the explosion was caused by a bomb," Ekizer told the Anadolu news agency. The driver of the car was in a critical condition at a local hospital but authorities were yet to confirm his identity, nor that of the dead man. The blast occurred at around 10 p.m. Friday night in the middle of the city around 100 metres away from a police station. A passer-by was also lightly injured in the explosion.
