The coastal areas of Badin and Thatta will be supported under CIF and will include mobilization of community organization, advisory services in saline agriculture, social services i.e. construction of primary schools, health centers, provision of equipment and furniture, and reconstruction of cyclone destroyed residential houses, water supply and sanitation, community based fishery management, supported for coastal aquaculture, construction of jetties/wharfs, provision of fishing boats and improvement in landing fish, support for improvement in marketing and processing rural roads and electrification, including through windmill and solar hybrid generation system. Opel said that the SCDA is currently implementing a Rs279.20 million project envisaging rehabilitation and propagation of drought affected Coastal Mangroves of Thatta District (Rs39.690 million), planting of Salt Resistant Tree Species in the Coastal zone of Sindh (Rs7 million), Marine Fisheries Surveillance in the coastal area of Sindh (Rs16.447), Pen Culture Demonstration in the coastal creeks and back water of Sindh (Rs8.500 million), Low Cost Feed Development for Brackish and marine fish culture (Rs19.999 million), Aquaculture Development in the Coastal areas of Thatta and Badin districts (Rs39.990 million), Shrimp Breeding in the Coastal Areas of Thatta and Badin districts (Rs19.200 million), Rural Water Supply Scheme at village Ismail Aplano, Thatta district (Rs6.245 million), Feasibility Study/Designing for Report for development of Entertainment and Recreation enters in the Coastal areas of Thatta and Badin districts (Rs10.550 million) and oil palm plantation on 1000 acres at different four locations in the Coastal zone of Thatta district as mode farms along with oil palm extraction plant of 2 tons per hour capacity (Rs84.919 million). Opel said that coastal zone of Sindh has not yet been exploited and that oil palm plantation can bring a green revolution as it is the "Crop of the Future" and can easily be substituted for heavily infested bananas and sugarcane, besides absorbing huge manpower resources.
