Jordan's King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein met with Middle East Quartet envoy James Wolfensohn Sunday and urged the world community to consider the reconstruction of the Palestinian economy following Israel's pullout as "one of its top priorities" according to an official statement. "During his talks with Wolfensohn, the monarch urged the world community to consider rebuilding the Palestinian economy and improving the living standard of Palestinians after the Israeli withdrawal one of its top priorities," the statement from the Royal Court said, according to DPA. "Wolfensohn briefed the king on efforts he has been exerting to build confidence between the Palestinians and Israelis, expressing hope that the Israeli pullout plan would be carried out calmly and without any security impediments," it added. Wolfensohn, a former World Bank chief, was appointed by U.S. President George W. Bush as the "disengagement envoy" of the Middle East Quartet, which groups the United States, the European Union, Russia and the United Nations. He has been tasked by the Group of Eight with drawing up an economic support plan for the Palestinian Authority by the end of September.
