Jordan's King Abdullah II held talks in Amman Wednesday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Israel's upcoming unilateral withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, dpa quoted a Royal Court official as saying. The official said the Jordanian-Palestinian summit and a meeting Thursday with Israeli Defence Minister Shaoul Mofaz fell within Abdullah's efforts "to guarantee a smooth Israeli withdrawal from Gaza". "Mofaz is due in Amman Thursday within Jordanian efforts to link the withdrawal to the ongoing political process," noted the official. "The King reiterated Jordan's support for the Palestinians," he added. --SP 1434 Local Time 1134 GMT
