Agentur dpa. Myers, who is due to retire September 30, met with the military leadership in Germany, Slovenia and Ireland from July 18 to July 20. Myers also praised Germany for its military help in Afghanistan and plan to expand its peacekeeping operation there. After the Kosovo conflict in 1999, the United States grew increasingly concerned that key NATO partners like Germany had not developed the military capability to effectively operate with the high-tech oriented Americans. Myers said he was satisfied the German military was committed to improving, but added that it was also an internal political decision. U.S. President George W.
