A bus carrying 55 people, including schoolchildren, plunged into a deep valley in southern China on Saturday killing 17 passengers, Xinhua news agency reported. The accident occurred at about 4 a.m. on Saturday (2000 GMT on Friday) en route from the western city of Chongqing to the southern city of Shenzhen, which is just over the border from Hong Kong. Thirty-eight passengers were injured and eight were in critical condition, Xinhua said. Most of the 18 schoolchildren aboard were on summer vacation and going to Shenzhen to visit parents serving as migrant workers, it said.
