Bulgarian customs officers seized 117 kg (257 lb) of cocaine after a routine check on a cargo ship at the Black Sea port of Varna, the customs office said on Wednesday. "Our officers found 360 small packages with cocaine hidden on a container ship travelling from Costa Rica to Bulgaria," a customs official told Reuters. The cocaine's value was estimated at 31 million levs ($19 million), but experts say its street value was much higher. No arrests have yet been made and investigations are continuing, the customs official said. The Balkan state has tightened border controls as part of efforts to join the European Union in January 2007.
