The operation continued Wednesday with police destroying shacks at an impoverished settlement outside the capital Harare.
Police moved into Porta Farm, an informal settlement around 20 kilometres (12 miles) from Harare, where they burnt shacks, an official from the Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) claimed.
"Even as I write, Mugabe's paramilitary police force is burning homes at Porta Farm outside Harare and loading its inhabitants onto trucks to remove them to holding camps," Mike Davies said in a statement.
