A scorching heat wave has killed at least 113 people in eastern and southern India, with monsoon rains delayed across most of the country, officials and news reports said Saturday. Temperatures touched 50 degrees Celsius (122 Fahrenheit) in Angul district, about 170 kilometers (100 miles) west of Orissa state's capital, Bhubaneshwar, said state government official D.N. Sahu. Most of the 113 reported dead were elderly people, small children and the poor, who often lack proper shelter and adequate drinking water, The Associated Press quoted officials as saying.
