Stocks climbed Monday, but a steady rise throughout the day was off-set, seemingly by a spike in oil prices. U.S. light crude for July delivery gained $2.08 to settle at $55.62 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, a rise of about 3.9 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 9.93, or 0.09 percent, to 10,522.56, and the technology-heavy Nasdaq was up 5.96, or 0.29, to settle at 2,068.96. The broader Standard & Poor 500 was up 2.71, or 0.23 percent, to 1,200.82. The New York Stock Exchange Composite Index was up nearly 13, or 0.18 percent, to 7,213.18, and the American Stock Exchange Composite Index was up 6.47, or 0.42 percent, to 1,534.26. The Russell 2000, up 2.69, or 0.43 percent, finished the day at 629.02.
