Sonia Gandhi, the president of India's ruling Congress Party, arrived in Moscow on Monday for a four-day visit that was to include a trip to St. Petersburg and the cities of Vladimir and Suzdal, all repositories of Russian cultural monuments. The Center of Russia's National Salvation, which invited Gandhi, credited her interest in Russia to her father's being a prisoner of war here during World War II. "However, he preserved good recollections of Russia and gave three daughters Russian names," the center said in a statement. In addition to her cultural program, Gandhi was to meet with high-ranking Russian officials and attend an international conference called Dialogue of Civilizations.
