Nine people were killed in a diarrhoea outbreak in a southern Philippine town, an official said Saturday. At least 70 other people suffered from the illness since the start of the outbreak a week ago in Palimbang town in Sultan Kudarat province, 1,005 kilometres south of Manila, Mayor Labualas Mamansual said. The victims fell ill after drinking unclean water from shallow wells, he said, according to DPA. "We have dispatched health personnel in the affected villages to prevent the disease from spreading," he said. Mamansual said regional health officials have already provided medicines for the victims. -- SP 0002 Local Time 2102 GMT
