Palestinian prisoners accused guards in Megiddo prison in northern Israel of desecrating editions of the Koran, and said they would begin a hunger strike Wednesday, dpa quoted Palestinian reports as saying. Israeli prison administrators rejected the accusation, saying the pages allegedly desecrated were not of the size of editions of the Koran. They added that 81 mobile phones and 40 knives had been seized in an ongoing search of cells, dpa reported. Similar accusations of Koran desecration at the U.S. prison camp at Guantanamo Bay on Cuba resulted in furious protests in several Moslem countries.
