European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso urged member states on Wednesday not to take "unilateral decisions" on the future of the EU's troubled consitution as the Dutch were set to vote "No" after France. "Let's wait for the result in the Netherlands, but whatever the result is, what I will ask all members of the European Union and European leaders is to avoid any unilateral initiative before the (June 16-17) European Council," he told a news conference with Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates. He did not single out any country, but the Czech Republic said on Wednesday it would seek an extension of the deadline for ratification after the negative French vote, and Britain faces a decision next week on whether to suspend or go ahead with enabling legislation to hold a referendum, Reuters reported.
