Heavy rain, floods and mudslides killed at least 23 people on Wednesday in south China, a part of the country which has been hit hard by drought. Torrential rain hit a mountainous region of southern Hunan province in the early hours and 11 people died in floods, Xinhua news agency said. At least 26 people were missing. Four villages were flooded in Xinshao county, electricity was cut and houses and crops destroyed, Xinhua said. More than 60,000 villagers had been evacuated.
