The International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights (IHF) on Tuesday called on Serbia to acknowledge responsibility of Serb forces for the massacre in Srebrenica and bring those responsible to justice. "Neither Prime Minister (Vojislav) Kostunica... nor any representative of the government, has spoken to the public or the international community to recognize the crimes committed by Serb forces and apologize to the families of the victims," IHF said, according to dpa. In a statement, IHF warned that instead "there is denial, and worse". The statement made reference to a recent forum organized by the Belgrade University's Law School, which glorified events at Srebrenica and described them as "liberation". Around 8,000 Bosnian Moslems were slaughtered by Serb forces between July 11 and July 19, 1995 just months before the U.S.- brokered Dayton peace agreement ended the bloody three-year war. IHF appealed to Belgrade to adopt a declaration on Srebrenica and take part in the anniversary memorial on July 11. It also said the arrest of indicted war crime suspects, including the wartime Bosnian Serb military commander Ratko Mladic, was one of the key conditions for the normalization of relations in the region.
