France's Chirac names Villepin as prime minister

French President Jacques Chirac named Dominique de Villepin as prime minister on Tuesday after accepting the resignation of Jean-Pierre Raffarin, Chirac's office announced.
Raffarin tendered his resignation earlier on Tuesday after French voters rejected the European Union's constitution in a referendum on Sunday. Villepin is a loyal ally and former interior and foreign minister, Reuters reported.
