The U.S. government on Saturday warned its citizens of potential terror attacks against American interests in Uzbekistan following violence in eastern parts of the Central Asian nation, and urged them to exercise "extreme caution." In a public announcement posted on the U.S. Embassy Web site, the State Department also urged U.S. citizens to limit unnecessary travel to Andijan, where Uzbek government troops put down a protest on May 13 after militants seized a local prison and government headquarters. The U.S. government has "received information that terrorist groups may be planning attacks against U.S. interests in Uzbekistan in the near future," The Associated Press quoted the announcement as saying.
