Thousands of passengers experienced delays in their travels after a main rail bridge in Malaysia's southern Johor state collapsed, railway officials announced Tuesday. Rail operators, Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) said in a statement that the bridge had suddenly collapsed Sunday evening, adding that nobody was injured in the accident, DPA reported. However, all rail services to and from the country's southern region would be disrupted, causing a massive disruption for thousands of passengers. The statement said repairs to the bridge is expected to be completed by Friday. Officials declined to elaborate on the reason for the collapse, but said passengers whose travels had been disrupted could claim compensation for their tickets. The train services along the country's southern region is extremely popular, with hundreds of people travelling over the weekend to and from neighbouring Singapore for work and leisure.
