A high profile business meeting between Germany and Latin American countries was underway Thursday in Colombia under the motto "Latin America on the Upswing, Opportunity calls", dpa reported Leaders were gathering for the ninth German-Latin American conference on economy in Cartagena, where about 300 representatives from German firms in Latin America and Latin American business owners were discussing the continent's bright economic outlook. The region's economic growth is booming at 5.5 per cent. Colombian President Alvaro Uribe was expected to speak to the conference on Friday. The two-day gathering was being attended by delegations from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela, among others. Germany is a major source of international trade for the Common Market of the South (Mercosur), the Andean Community, Mexico and some Central American countries. --More 2330 Local Time 2030 GMT
