Six people _ including five policemen _ were killed Monday when a police post in troubled Maluku province was attacked by unidentified gunmen, a spokesman said. Maluku police spokesman Maj. Hendro Praesetyo said the five officers belonged to the Mobile Brigade paramilitary unit. He said the attack occurred in the village of Loki on Seram, the largest island in the Maluku archipelago. The Associated Press quoted local government officials as saying that the gunmen abducted three teenagers to lead them to the police post, and after the firefight shot dead one of them. The attackers _ who carried off a variety of infantry weapons _ fled the scene in a speedboat. The Maluku islands are about 2,600 kilometers (1,600 miles) northeast of Jakarta. The area was known in Dutch colonial times as the Moluccas or Spice Islands.
