The third conference of Palestinians in Europe appealed to the international community on Sunday to recognize the right of return of the Palestinian people to their homeland, dpa reported today. In a 16-point declaration, the participants from 21 European countries in particular called on the United Nations and E.U. to stop the Israeli building of settlements and walls in Palestinian areas. The chairman of the political committee of the Palestinian National Council, Abdallah Horani, stressed the commitment of the Palestinians under President Mahmud Abbas to implementing the international roadmap to peace. Horani said the Israelis too must honour their commitments under the roadmap, which provides for the creation of a viable and sovereign Palestinian state in West Jordan and the Gaza Strip. He said the Palestinians above all hoped for the withdrawal of the Israelis from Gaza "without ifs and buts" or further delays. Horani also thanked to Vienna for hosting the conference, which was committed to the right of return and peaceful coexistence of the two states of Israel and Palestine. -- SP 2342 Local Time 2042 GMT
