Japanese Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura on Saturday said he reiterated to his Chinese counterpart Tokyo's demands for an apology and compensation following anti-Japan riots in China last month. Machimura and Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing met on the sidelines of a two-day Asia-Europe foreign ministers' conference in Japan's western city of Kyoto, to try to mend a diplomatic rift that has sent their relations to its lowest point in decades. Asked if an apology and compensation from Beijing had been reiterated to China's foreign minister, Machimura said: "It was." He didn't elaborate, according to a report of The Associated Press.
