A suicide attack in the Kurdish city of Arbil in northern Iraq on Wednesday killed more than 45 civilians and left scores wounded, the Iraqi defence ministry said. "At 11:15 this morning, a suicide bomber carrying explosives blew himself up near Al-Zaytoun Hotel in downtown Arbil", a ministry statement said. The bomber blew himself up among a group of job-seekers queueing at a police recruitment centre in the city 350 kilometres north of Baghdad, hospital sources said. Police and army recruitment offices have frequently come under attack by insurgents opposed to the U.S.-backed government of Iraq, DPA reported.
