U.S. and Italian authorities investigating the fatal shooting of an Italian intelligence agent by American soldiers in Iraq were unable to agree on a final conclusion on the cause of the incident, the U.S. and Italian governments said Friday. The U.S.-Italian inquiry has been completed on last month's shooting, which has been a source of tension between the two countries and allies in the Iraq war. The joint statement by the two governments released in Washington did not state a reason for the disagreement. Italian Foreign Minister Gianfranco Fini said from Rome that details of the inquiry would be released in "a few days' time" and "will make it obvious why Italy could not endorse its conclusions". He added that Italy's magistrates would be continuing their separate investigation into the March 4 shooting. U.S. soldiers shot and killed the Italian agent, Nicola Calipari and wounded an Italian hostage, a journalist, whose release he had secured about an hour earlier. --More 2225 Local Time 1925 GMT
