Abbas welcomes Putin's proposal for Mideast peace conference

Palestinian leader Mahmoud
Abbas said Friday he welcomed Russian President Vladimir
Putin's proposal to hold an international Mideast peace
conference in Moscow in the fall.
Putin, on a three-day tour of the region, originally
proposed the Mideast conference during a trip to Egypt on
Wednesday.
"We welcome the convening of an international peace
conference," Abbas said during a joint press conference
with Putin. "The conditions are right."
