The United States on Monday urged North Korea to resume six-nation talks after reports that Pyongyang shut down a nuclear reactor, a sign the country could be preparing to make more fuel for weapons. "North Korea previously made a commitment to come back to the six- party talks so that we can move forward on the proposal that we previously outlined," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said, "and North Korea's failure to follow through on that commitment and its provocative words and actions only further isolate it." According to South Korean news reports, North Korea's nuclear reactor in Yongbyon has been switched off, possibly for the withdrawal of spent fuel rods. The U.S. government, while concerned, has also said there could be other reasons why the North Koreans decided to shut down the reactor. A senior State Department official said there could be a "variety" of reasons. --SP 2331 Local Time 2031 GMT
