opening talks on implementing the understandings agreed between Sharon and the Palestinian leader, Mahmoud Abbas, at February's Sharm al-Sheikh summit. Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat told the BBC that he would be looking to restart discussions on all the issues including the release of Palestinian prisoners and the current informal ceasefire, as well as the barrier Israel is constructing inside the West Bank. The Palestinians have said Israel is delaying the implementation of the agreements and is not observing the current informal truce.
