South African gold production fell 9 percent last year to the lowest level since 1931 and is expected to continue the decline this year, the Chamber of Mines said Tuesday. The chamber said 2004 production fell to 342.7 metric tons from 375.8 metric tons the year before and that the downward trend continued in the first quarter of 2005.
