Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao Saturday promised to help Sri Lanka reconstruct harbors, roads and other infrastructure destroyed by the December tsunami. China will provide US$15 million (¤11 million) to rebuild six of the 10 fisheries harbors destroyed by the tsunami, Wen said as he visited affected families in Panadura on the island's west coast. He also offered to help set up an early-warning system for natural disasters. Fisheries Minister Chandrasena Wijesinghe said the industry has suffered immensely with about 20,000 fishing boats destroyed by the disaster. Jiabao arrived in Sri Lanka Friday and met President Chandrika Kumaratunga. He is expected to leave the island later Saturday. More than 31,000 Sri Lankans were killed in the Dec. 26 tsunami, which also made nearly 1 million people homeless.
