First Islamic Solidarity Games opens

Under the patronage of Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard, Prince Abdulmajeed bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Makkah, opened at King Abdulaziz Sports City in Makkah tonight the first Islamic Solidarity Games to be hosted by the Kingdom in four cities simultaneously: Makkah, Almadinah, Jeddah and Taif from 8 - 20, 2005.
He was received at the venue by Prince Sultan bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz, President of Youth Welfare, and a number of princes, official guests and officials.
In a speech read through satellites, Crown Prince Abdullah welcomed the participants and wished the organizers every success, recalling that Muslims ancestors have established great and prosperous civilizations when they adhered to loyalty, faith, fraternity, sincerity and unity.
