The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) welcomed Iraq's National Assembly election of Jalal Talibani as president of Iraq and Sheikh Ghazi Al-Yawer and Dr. Adil Abdulhadi as vice presidents. In a press statement issued here today, the GCC's Secretary General Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Atiyyah wished the Iraqi people security, stability and prosperity and hoped that Iraq resumes its effective role at the Arab, regional and international arenas.
