Three Thai Muslims were sentenced to life imprisonment Thursday after being convicted on charges related to an attack last year on a police station in southern Thailand. The provincial court in the southern province of Yala sentenced Saomari Samae, Kamarudin Biding and Lukmai Samae to life imprisonment for their part in an armed attack on a police station in the province, 1,080 kilometers (670 miles) south of Bangkok, on Jan. 7, 2004. No one was injured in the incident. Two other Thais and a Malaysian national also received long prison sentences in connection with the attack on the police station.
