The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide a loan of approximately $60 million for an environmental improvement project of Rawalpindi near Islamabad, a senior official said. The project will be on ground by June this year, said Water and Sanitation Authority Rawalpindi Managing Director Syed Aslam Ali Sabzwari said. The feasibility report of the phase two of the environmental project was almost complete. Sabzwari said that of the total outlay of $85.71 million, 70 per cent would be the loan component of ADB, 25 per cent to be paid by Government of Punjab while five per cent by Tehsil Municipal Administration Rawalpindi. He said that the appraisal mission of ADB was due in Rawalpindi in the beginning of May to finalize the modalities of loan and money would be made available to the authority by June. Sabzwari said that the first phase of Rawalpindi Environmental Improvement Project was completed under which the water supply network in the city was refurbished besides bringing water to the area from Khanpur Dam. Giving details about the phase-2 of the environmental improvement project for Rawalpindi he said that the project included construction of sewerage treatment plant at Adiala Road, laying of sewerage network in the civic limits of Rawalpindi and linking it to the main sewerage conductance line which would take the sewerage water to the treatment plant at Adiala Road.
