The new government of Turkish Cypriot premier Mehmet Ali Talat won a vote of confidence Wednesday in Turkish-part of northern Cyprus, in a boost to efforts to reunify the divided island. Talat, whose Republican Turkish Party won Feb. 20 parliamentary elections in the breakaway Turkish Cypriot state recognized only by Turkey, formed a new government with the Democrat Party of his previous coalition partner, Serdar Denktash. The new government commands 30 seats in the 50-seat parliament and says it wants a solution to the island's partition.
