The United States on Tuesday condemned the assassination attempt on Kosovo's president, Ibrahim Rugova, and called for the quick arrest of those responsible. "Violence in any form will not be tolerated and can only hurt Kosovo's future," State Department spokesman Adam Ereli said. "We believe that the perpetrator or perpetrators of this cowardly act must be apprehended and tried as soon as possible." Rugova survived unharmed after a powerful explosion Tuesday seriously damaged his car and injured a bystander. The blast occurred as Rugova's motorcade passed through one of Pristina's main streets on the way to a meeting with European Union foreign policy and security chief Javier Solana, police said. -
