Karolos Papoulias, a former foreign minister, was sworn in as Greece's sixth president Saturday after being elected by Greek parliament last month. Papoulias, 75, replaces the highly popular Constantine Stephanopoulos who ended his term after being only person to serve two consecutive five-year terms in the post. Papoulias was the only candidate nominated for the largely ceremonial post. The inauguration ceremony in parliament was attended by Premier Costas Karamanlis, other political leaders and lawmakers.
