Police shot and killed 10 suspected Maoist rebels, including a top insurgent leader, after ambushing them in southern India early Monday, a police officer said. The fighting was the most serious encounter between police and rebels since the breakdown of peace talks in January. Since then, more than 80 people have died in clashes. The latest fighting took place in Manala, nearly 170 kilometers (105 miles) north of Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh state, said N. Madhususdhan Reddy, the superintendent of police.
