A moderate earthquake, measuring 5.4 magnitude, hit southern Quebec early on Sunday and was felt across the New England states, but there were no reports of damage, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said. The quake occurred about 10 miles (16 km) west-southwest of Riviere-du-Loup, Quebec and about 55 miles (88 km) north-northwest of Dickey, Maine. The quake was felt in the U.S. states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and northeastern New York, USGS spokeswoman Clarice Ransom said.
