Al-Abbasa Mosque in Abu Arish Governorate in Jazan Region will be renovated as part of the second phase of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques. The mosque is considered one of the oldest mosques in Jazan and, with its three unique domes, one of the most prominent heritage buildings there. The project for the renovation of historical mosques will develop Al-Abbasa Mosque, built in 1262 AH, with the same original natural building materials initially used in its construction. The renovation project will preserve valuable historic details including the Quranic verses inscribed on its apse, the placard that holds the date of its construction, and the iconic three domes. The mosque is also distinguished by its stone architecture, which contrasts with bricks used in its surrounding environment. The project aims to increase the area of the mosque to reach about 435.38 square meters, with a capacity that can accommodate 165 worshipers. The second phase of Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques aims to develop 30 mosques in all 13 regions of the Kingdom, including six mosques in Riyadh, five mosques in Makkah, four mosques in Madinah, three mosques in Asir, two mosques each in the Eastern Region, Al-Jouf, and Jazan, and one mosque in each of the Northern Borders, Tabuk, Al-Baha, Najran, Hail, and Al-Qassim.
