The 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held in Nouakchott under the slogan, "Moderation is the Key to Security and Stability." Opening the session, OIC Secretary General Hussein Ibrahim Taha thanked the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its constant support to the Jeddah-based organization. He welcomed the agreement between Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran to resume diplomatic relations and reopen their embassies, saying that the agreement would enhance regional peace and stability. Taha called for unified position and intensified efforts to address the risky challenges facing the brotherly Palestinians, calling on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and put an end to the Israeli crimes and violations and provide protection for the Palestinian people. He also called for re-launching a multi-side peace process to resolve the conflict on the basis of the two-state solutions, the relevant international resolutions, and the Arab Peace Initiative. The secretary general called on Afghanistan's authorized agencies to reconsider their decision on women's education and work and to exert more efforts to eliminate all forms of terrorism. The meeting also addressed other issues related to the Jammu and Kashmir dilemma, Rohingya's Muslims, Somalia, Yemen, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Central Africa, and Chad.
