Recovery workers pulled 256 more bodies from debris left by the Dec. 26 earthquake and tsunami that hit Aceh province, bringing Indonesia's death toll to 124,829, a government agency said Tuesday. The missing tally fell from 112,319 to 111,528, the National Disaster Relief Coordinating Board said. Most of those still unaccounted for are feared dead, but can't be legally declared so for a year. Also Tuesday, Indonesia's Social Affairs Ministry increased its death toll slightly from 127,414 to 127,420 but said the number of missing remained the same at 116,368. The government has not explained the differences in the two counts. The NDRCB said all 256 bodies were found Monday among the debris in Aceh's capital, Banda Aceh, and its surrounding area of Aceh Besar district. Its overall toll of 124,829 includes 124,701 dead in Aceh and 128 in other parts of Sumatra Island.
