Suspected communist rebels abducted 50 villagers on the pretext of settling a local dispute and fatally shot eight of them in a remote forest area in southern India, police said Tuesday. The insurgents chopped off the hands and legs of the two of those killed in Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh state on Monday night, a police officer said on condition of anonymity. It was the first major attack on villagers in the area since the insurgents abandoned peace talks with the state government in October.
