Prince Mohammed Bin Saad Bin Abdulaziz, the Advisor of the Interior Minister, opened here today an international conference on "Medicine and Surgery of Premature Children and Newly Born Infants." Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the two-day conference, Dr Zafir Skeef, Head of the conference's organizing committee, highlighted the big strides made by the Kingdom in the medical sphere. He noted that the rate of mortality in the Kingdom was reduced from 81 children among each one thousand children in 1976 to about 14 among each one thousand children in 2004. He noted that the participants of the conference, attended by a number of specialists from the Kingdom and abroad, will review the latest developments in the field of medicine and surgery of immature children and newly born infants. Later Prince Mohammed bin Saad bin Abdulaziz opened the medical exhibition organized on the fringes of the conference.
