World Bank managing director Shengman Zhang Saturday cautioned the Liberian government to strive to improve its budget management if it is to qualify for a waiver of its debts and credit facilities with the bank. "We cannot have the level of management of the budget that we have today, it has to improve. To be in good standing with the IMF and the World Bank, you have to meet certain standards as to how you deal with your budget. We need to see that it is well managed for a period," Shengman, who arrived in Liberia Saturday on a two-day visit, told a press conference. Liberia currently owes the World Bank 450 million dollars. Shengman addressed the press shortly after meeting with Transitional Chairman Charles Gyude Bryant at the presidential mansion in Monrovia. The remarks come against the backdrop of massive corruption in the power-sharing government.
